GAME NOTES: UWF to compete in Eckerd College Invitational

first_imgPENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida softball team will play its first games of the season this weekend after having its home opener against Tuskegee University canceled due to rain.The Argonauts will travel to Clearwater, Florida this weekend to participate in the Eckerd College Invitational. UWF will face opponents from the Sunshine State Conference and south region.West Florida will begin the tournament Feb. 6 and will face Florida Southern at 4:30 p.m. ET and then Lynn at 7 p.m. ET.. The Argos will then take on Florida Tech and Saint Leo Saturday, Feb. 7. UWF will close out the tournament with a single match-up against Tampa on Feb. 8 at 11:30 a.m. ET. Preseason rankingsThe University of West Florida softball team was picked to finish fifth in the 2015 Gulf South Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Argonauts garnered 46 total points in the poll voted on by coaches in the GSC. Valdosta State University was slated to finish first in the conference after totaling 77 points in the poll. The Lady Blazers are coming off of last season that saw them earn their sixth-straight GSC Tournament title and were runner-ups in the NCAA Division II Tournament. The University of Alabama-Huntsville earned 71 points to finish second in the poll while Shorter University (70) and the University of North Alabama (58) were slated third and fourth, respectively.Print Friendly Versionlast_img read more
