In this sense,General Education at VinUniversity is essentially a “gateway”between past and future, theory and practice, and local and global. This is where students, faculty and staff collectively take thefirst step towards realizing VinUniversity’s mission ofcontributing to the betterment of Vietnam and the world. Our Faculty of Arts and Sciences takes inspiration from thethree principles of education reform, namely “dan toc” [nation],“khoa hoc” [science] and “dai chung” [people] put forth byVietnam’s longest-serving Minister of Education, the late ProfessorNguyen Van Huyen, who strived to develop an education system tobuild a modern nation for all Vietnamese citizens in the tryingtimes of post-independence Vietnam. For the betterment of Vietnam as a nation and to contribute tothe world as members of the global community, General Education atVinUniversity begins with developing in each individual aconscientious and critical understanding of the self, Vietnam andthe world. To develop a reflexive understanding of the self, weencourage students to step out of their comfort zone,self-cultivate an open mind, and most importantly, to dare todream! Yet, to be able to do so means developing a grounded andcritical understanding of the past and present of Vietnam, how weunderstand ourselves and how others try to understand us, andfinally, how we could together look to the future. To find ourplace in the world and to have a voice in how our future could be,General Education at VinUniversity is thoroughly infused with aglobal-local approach in the design of class-based courses andco-curricular programs. We approach the global with a view that“digital is the new global” and ask, “What are the possibilities wemay uncover in the age of globalization underlined by digitalinfusion?”To fully explore possibilities of how the digital could changethe world and help us fulfill the primary mission of VinUniversity, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at VinUni aspires to become amodel bona-fide interdisciplinary core curriculum in Vietnam.Taking onboard experiences in multi-disciplinary,cross-disciplinary, and interdisciplinary research and teachingfrom across the world and different intellectual traditions, weadopt a grounded but innovative approach in the design of coursesin collaboration with faculty, students, and relevant stakeholdersin state and society. Serving as the core curriculum for allVinUniversity students, each course in the Faculty of Arts andSciences is designed to plant the seeds that will help students ask“big questions” about past and present, to develop the capacity tolearn new skills and to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Our co-curricular programs, planned in collaboration with a wide ofrange external stakeholders, extend beyond the initial year to takestudents out of the classrooms to fully reap the benefits ofexperiential learning. The Faculty of Arts and Sciences is the place where you willencounter like-minded passionate and innovative academics who aredevoted to education and grounded in interdisciplinary, sociallyengaged, and global/digital research specialization. To competently serve society with heart and mind, the Faculty ofArts and Sciences seeks to begin cultivating in each student sixidentified attributes, namely: Character, Competence, CriticalThinking, Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and National Pride-GlobalAwareness. DCC through to U19 final

first_imgThe Demerara Cricket Club yesterday booked their spot in the final of the Georgetown Cricket Association/ New York/ Tri-State U19 tournament after beating the New York U-19 by 47 runs at the Georgetown Cricket Club. Batting first on a good surface and a lush outfield DCC posted 206 from their 50 overs. They then dismissed the New York side for 159.New York started well with a few early wickets but opener Brandon Jaikarran with a solid 38 set the platform for Sagar Hathiramani to come in and play his naturally aggressive game for the top score of 60, an innings which included three fours and two sixes. Hathiramani partnered with Nkosi Beaton to resist the New York’s attack, the pair adding 50 runs before Beaton fell for 29.
