Kok, McNabb tied at PGA Professional National Championship

first_imgMYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Johan Kok shot a 5-under 67 on Sunday to match The Dunes Golf & Beach Club competitive record and share the first-round lead in the PGA Professional National Championship. Kok, the 34-year-old former University of South Carolina player from South Africa, is the PGA general manager at Temple Hills Country Club in Brentwood, Tennessee. The top 20 will get spots in the PGA Championship at Valhalla in August in Louisville, Kentucky. ”This is a chance to play in a major,” Kok said. ”It may not happen for me this week after all is said and done, but I’m happy to be here and get that chance.” Dave McNabb, the 48-year-old PGA head professional at Applebrook Golf Club in Malvern, Pennsylvania, opened with a 67 at Grande Dunes Resort Club. ”I feel today that I took advantage of a fantastic golf course that was set up to score,” McNabb said. ”Conditions were ideal. I’m looking forward to heading to The Dunes tomorrow and trying to do the same. You have to be in the right spot on the greens.” Kok one-putted 11 greens at The Dunes, the site of the final two rounds in the 72-hole tournament. He matched the course record set by Billy Joe Patton in the 1960 Southern Amateur and Ben Crenshaw in the 1973 PGA Tour Qualifying School. The Senior Tour Championship, conducted at The Dunes from 1994-1999, used a shorter yardage when Jay Sigel shot a 63 in 1994. Jamie Broce of Ottawa Hills, Ohio, and Ryan Helminen of Menasha, Wisconsin, shot 68. Broce, the men’s golf coach at the University of Toledo, and Helminen, a PGA teaching professional at Ridgeway Country Club in Neenan, Wisconsin, played at The Dunes.last_img read more

NFL curbs fantasy football marketing to youths

first_img NEW YORK (AP) – The NFL has agreed to curtail its marketing of fantasy football to children ages 6 to 12.Last season, the league marketed fantasy football to youngsters on its NFL Rush Fantasy website and app, offering cash prizes and game consoles to contest winners. It also promoted an elementary school curriculum that encouraged children to play the fantasy game. The NFL confirmed Wednesday it has informed several advocacy groups that it will make significant changes to the game. The school curriculum based on the game has been discontinued and the league has promised it will not promote fantasy sports in schools in the future.“We are pleased that the NFL has agreed to make these changes, and young children will no longer have a financial stake in the outcome of its games,” said Josh Golin, executive director of the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood. “It is also good news for parents that the league will no longer enlist teachers and schools in an effort to get children into the habit of playing fantasy sports.” Published: July 13, 2016 3:03 PM EDT Updated: July 13, 2016 3:10 PM EDT NFL curbs fantasy football marketing to youths SHARE Do you see a typo or an error? Silvano Prandi: I fired Lubo Ganev, and now he has appointed…

first_imgThe selector of the national volleyball team Silvano Prandi gave an interview to Dallarivolley.com a few days after it became clear that he will be a coach in the next 2-3 years. He stated that he has no contract with the home federation, but there is already an oral agreement to remain at the head of our representative team.“A curious situation. I was Lubo Ganev’s coach, and now he is my president. Life is like that. We were in Cuneo, and then I kicked him out. The decision to release him was mine. Then I wanted to impose Rafa Pascual, who had a future for me. I went to a German town in person to tell him we were splitting up. He had to be face to face because Lubo was a person who didn’t deserve to leave on the phone. Now the first thing he did as president was to call me and tell me that he wants to continue with me at the head of the national team. We did not qualify for the Olympics, but we played very well in the qualifiers, “said Prandi. He admitted that he feels perfect and said that he is guaranteed 2-3 years at the helm of the Bulgarian national team, as well as another 2 years of work at Chaumont. “Being on two jobs is interesting because you’re sure you’re never bored. I’m used to that rhythm,” Prandy said.last_img read more

55% Of People Regularly or Always Fake Their Web Identity

first_imgWhy Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… Pic by miss.chaos Our currentpoll has been causing a bit of water cooler discussion amongst the Read/WriteWebauthors. The question we’re asking in the poll is: in your current Webactivities where an identity is required (i.e. you can’t be anonymous) do youever fake all or part of your identity? After 511 votes so far, an astonishing 55% of respondents say they regularlyor always use fake Web identities. Just 12% of people said theyalways use their real identity. Remember we’re specifically asking about thetimes when you use an identity rather than being simply anonymous – so forexample if you use online dating sites, peer-to-peer transactions sites such ascraigslist or ebay, and general social networking sites like MySpace and SecondLife. One thought amongst the R/WW authors was that the poll might be a bit toogeneral. Indeed the poll results reminded me of a comment made on an earlier R/WW post(by Jitendra Gupta) about ThrowawayIdentities. This is an extract from the comment I’m referring to, which wasmade by a 19-year old:“I think there’s two areas that need to be treated separately:1 – Teenage social things like myspace, IM, video games etc. 2 – Serious things where someone can ruin your career or life by stealing youridentity. In the second area a system like openID is needed, but in the first it’sfun to change your identity and it’s even part of the experience.”So perhaps the Web is encouraging people, particularly the youngergeneration, to experiment with identity in social networks and the like. Thatit’s all part of the Web experience these days. Butwhen it comes to ‘serious’ things, like buying and selling on eBay, then peoplewill use their real identities. What do others make of the poll results so far? 55% of people regularly oralways faking their Web identity seems quite high, but is it just a reflectionof the current era of the Web – which is mostly about socializing andentertainment? Also perhaps faking your Web identity is just plain common sense onsocial networks and social blogs, because who knows if what you write today willbite you in the bum 10-15 years down the line. Google Shutters Realtime Search, For Now

first_imgaudrey watters Why Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… Tags:#Google#Real-Time Web#search#web Over the weekend, the keen eyes at Search Engine Land noticed that Google’s Realtime Search had gone missing. The website returns a 404 error, the option no longer appears in the left-hand sidebar and search results for news no longer include real-time links.A Google spokesperson confirmed the closure, but called it a temporary one. According to Google, Realtime Search has been shuttered as a 2009 agreement between Twitter and Google had expired, making what was one of the key element of that real-time content – Tweets – no longer available.Tweets weren’t the only part of Google Realtime Search, to be sure. Other content included Google Buzz, Google News, MySpace posts and FriendFeed updates. Although that list of services is just a partial one, it makes the centrality of Twitter to this search pretty clear. With the launch last week of Google+, the inability for Twitter and Google to renew their Realtime Search agreement suggests an interesting road ahead for social and real-time search. Tweets do still show up in Bing social searches, it’s worth noting. Google Plus and Realtime SearchGoogle may move to incorporate the new Google Plus posts into a revised real-time search, but that hardly addresses the problem of searching for Tweets. As Danny Sullivan points out, Twitter has “largely outsourced the service of Twitter search longer than a few days to Google.” Although Google will still have access to Twitter data by crawling the Web, it won’t be the same, and the recurring complaints about the difficulties surrounding Twitter search and archives are likely to resurface.Social Signals in SearchIt’s easy to read the falling out between Twitter and Google as being connected to the newly launched Google Plus, but it’s far too early to make any sweeping pronouncements about Google no longer needing Twitter to beef up its social search now that it has what appears to be a successful social component on its hands. Google has managed just fine without having Facebook integration, of course. But the value of Twitter in real-time searches seems to go beyond just “the social.” Add to that, Google+ still a nascent network, one that may be, at least according to journalism professor Jeff Jarvis, somewhat less useful of a tool for breaking news coverage and by extension, less useful for real-time search. 8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Marketcenter_img Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting A Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai… Related Posts last_img read more

Asked if he would have any key players back from injury for the weekend, Solskjaer said: “I don’t know. Let’s see on Saturday morning. New Brunswick says floodhit homes may not get approval for rebuild

first_imgFREDERICTON – New Brunswick flood victims may not be able to rebuild their homes — or only rebuild after significant mitigation efforts like raising them. The destructive, record-setting spring floods along the Saint John River and other waterways have prompted measures aimed at preventing similar damage next time.Ryan Donaghy of the Department of Environment and Local Government told reporters Monday that homeowners will have to detail mitigation efforts before being issued a permit near a river or other watercourse.“We are requiring property owners to submit plans that include new mitigation measures or design before permits will be issued,” Donaghy said.About 12,000 properties were affected by flooding between late April and mid-May; dozens of homes are beyond any hope of repair. The regulations require anyone intending to do work within 30 metres of a watercourse or wetland to first obtain a permit, Donaghy said.“We are working with (homeowners) to seek options to build away from the waterways or wetlands if they can, and we are also looking for flood proofing plans as part of our review of their applications if building outside of that buffer is not an option,” he said. The 2018 flood levels will become the benchmark.Donaghy said some people may have to raise their homes, while some others won’t be allowed to rebuild.“It really depends on what your options are. Are you repairing what you have, rebuilding, or building new? Different options would be acceptable,” he said.Last month, Environment Minister Andrew Harvey said the new regulations are merely a starting point, as wider changes to municipal bylaws and zoning rules have to be considered in the wake of the province’s second major flood in a decade.“As time goes on, those are decisions that are going to have to be made about zoning and about where people are building,” he said. “These are some tough decisions that will have to be made … and we as a government at some point in the future will have to look at the issue about zoning.”The government says 2,627 people have registered damage for disaster financial assistance. The federally backed program offers financial assistance for uninsurable losses, up to $160,000 per primary residence or non-profit organization, and $500,000 per small business. Cottage owners can get financial assistance up to $6,100 to help clean up their property.Of those who registered for assistance, 1,871 requested a health and safety inspection. So far, 91 per cent of the inspections have been completed.Lisa Munn, recovery services manager with the New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization, said 50 to 60 homes are beyond repair. She said in some cases the province will buy the homes and properties, and no one will be able to build on those properties again in the future.Allie Murchison, emergency management coordinator with the Canadian Red Cross, says at least 71 people remain in temporary housing, while others are staying with friends and family.“We’re keeping them until they feel safe and ready to go home … and can get back on their feet,” she said. The Red Cross has provided financial assistance to about 550 households using funds donated to the organization’s New Brunswick flood appeal, she said. The Department of Transportation says all major transportation links have been re-established, but there are still a number of detours and five roads that remain closed.Meanwhile agricultural officials said all farms hit by this year’s flooding say they expect to be able to plant this year.Spokesman Kevin McCully said a visual inspection of the farms showed no sign of sewage or petroleum products in the fields. He said the flooding happened before seeding the fields, and the biggest concern for farmers was erosion.Health officials earlier cautioned against eating fiddleheads or other food that could have been exposed to floodwaters.last_img read more

Going to Mars is Forbidden in Islam Emirati Fatwa

first_imgCasablanca- According to a Fatwa (a legal pronouncement in Islam) recently issued by the Emirati Commission for Fatwa and Islamic Affairs, going to Mars with the intention to spend the rest of one’s life there is forbidden in Islam. The Emirati Commission for Fatwa and Islamic Affairs recently issued a Fatwa that has stirred a controversy in the Islamic World. According to this Fatwa, going to Mars is analogous to suicide, which is an act strictly forbidden in Islam. “Going to Mars without return seriously puts one’s life at risk,” news website Kahleejitimes.com quoted the Emirati Commission as saying. “There, you are more vulnerable and are more likely to die at any given moment,” the Commission added. According to the Commission, those who have opted for such a “dangerous” experience are willing to die for a religiously “immoral” reason, and “will thus endure the same punishment in the afterlife as those who commit suicide.”However, this Fatwa was not the first of its kind in the Islamic World. In November 2013, the Saudi Cheikh Ali El Hekmi told Al Hayat newspaper that “an expedition to the red planet transgresses the limits of human beings, whose life must not be wasted.”The expedition El Hekmi was referring to was Mars One, a revolutionary space project that aims to establish a human settlement in Mars by 2023.Mars One had invited volunteers to take on the challenge of an interplanetary trip and set out to live on the red planet. Many volunteers from all corners of the world have answered the call and the shortlist has already been made. Karim El Tahiri, one of two Moroccans who applied to Mars One was selected among 202.586 candidates who had also applied via application videos on the project’s official website.last_img read more
