With Indian National Congress facing to tackle the number game of politics in Rajasthan, sparing a few moments at the past of INC, will let us all know of a man whose qualities and thoughts can never be forgotten. Kumaraswami Kamarajar, born on July 15, 1903, rose up to the position of Congress presidency after holding different political offices including the chief ministerial post of TamilNadu. As his 117th birth anniversary was celebrated on 15-07-2020, a look into his role in making Shastri and Mrs Indira Gandhi as the prime ministers of India, becomes inevitable whilst this political crisis happening in our times. Kamarajar is known by the phrase kingmaker and is also marked for his simplicity, modesty and honesty in politics. Limiting the work, within the sphere of his kingmaker role, understanding the absence of such a kingmaker in the present INC will throw some light on the necessity of it. Kamarajar played a major role in choosing Shastri and Indira Gandhi despite the presence of Morarji Desai in the party, by accumulating the support of the syndicates within the party, across the nation all over, soon after the demises of Nehru and Shastri. However, the question is not about the past rather is to be considered about the present. How many Kamarajars are there in the INC for now?Is there any other key kingmaker within it nationally, who can bring all the syndicates under one leader?Or it is going to be the leader himself, the Kingmaker too?Citing the collapsed governments of Karnataka, lead by JD(S)- INC, and Madhya Pradesh,(INC), now Rajasthan is also on the track facing a political turmoil. With BJP taking up the governments in Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh in a quicker phase of time, INC has to look deeply and widely to solve the Rajasthan trouble.Though the stories of Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are different, there’s one thing in common, the decline of INC’s capacity to run a full-term government. Reasons can be enlisted as many. The leadership of Rahul Gandhi was questioned by many, however, the post for the Congress presidency remains vacant since his resignation, which causes lacunae in quick decision making of it. Few desire him to be on post whereas, few oppose. However, one fact is crystal clear that the party has no other option rather than finding an alternative within the Gandhi family. The possibility of an emergence of a kingmaker is no were feasible in the contemporary INC, as all look for the Gandhi family to be a saviour.Whenever people like Scindia, Pilot moves away from INC, it also causes a dubious cloud of confusion around the nearest future of the party. Therefore, whenever a Scindia or Pilot goes far from the party, they also take away the syndicates with them and puts the future of INC to be debated at every instance. Finally, if at all, it is the same leader who is also going to be the kingmaker, who it will be and what will be his/her strategies to make him/her the leader of the party and possibly a strong opposition as well.Apart from all the doubts, and common criticisms placed upon INC, we still do need a highly potential party that could ask questions to the authority, provide advisory functions to the ruling party, and to assure the existence of democracy rather than shrinking the idea of democracy into ‘only elections-democracy’.
